NES, or SNES? Empty NES, or SNES?

    Post  JJkul 9/26/2010, 18:38

I'm thinking about buying one or the other, but I'm not sure.

    Here's some info:

I'm not too into RPGs or SHMUPS

I have enough allowance to get 1-3 games a month, if those games are the only ones I want (meaning i don't buy a game for a different console)

Fun co-op is a major plus (that probably doesn't help though, since there are so many co-op games for both consoles)

I'm fine with hard, but I don't want majorly hard, although I have no qualms with using a Game Genie

4 NES games I have due to a past NES and 3rd-party knock off system that I didn't care for (system's fault, not the games)

    Super Mario Bros 3
    Double Dribble
    Excitebike
    Darkwing Duck
    DeltaBladeX

Get a good dual system. I know some exist. Heck, you can get a good NES / Genesis system if you look around.

If you only want to get a regular system, SNES, since the old NES systems tend to have a blinking problem. If you can get one of the one style top loading ones, I believe those fixed some of the problems that are caused by age.

    I think I'm gonna go with a top-loading NES.

It's too bad that I won't be able to use a Genie, but I can try to avoid particularly hard games.

Then a SNES when I have the funds for that.

    Also, thanks for the reply.

I would have to say a SNES because it is my favorite system of all time! It has so many good games for it but if you want both you could get the retro duo (both snes and nes) for around $40. It works really good!

I'm sure that there are after market systems that are good, but after an FC Twin NES/Genesis, I've kind of been soured to those.

Plus, it looks cooler to have the regular system Cool

I do still plan to get a SNES some time, I just don't know if I'll do it right now.

You know when you play the awesome sequel of a game you really like, and you can see all the sweet upgrades, that's also a plus of buying the NES first, instead of the SNES.

But also, how do original SNESs hold up? Is it okay to get an original one used, or should a person get the redesign?

I have a list going on, but i definitely see some games on there I don't have on my list, so thanks for the list.

As I get the NES and build my collection for that, I'll look forward to getting Christmas money and having a SNES spree cyclops

    EDIT:

I wasn't meaning to ask if it's okay to buy a used SNES, but I meant the original vs redesign.

I was going to go with redesign, but it seems in order to get good use out of a game genie I'll have to buy an original, which if it works well is fine, since it saves $10

I will, like I said it seems that in order to make sure I'll be able to use a Game Genie I'll have to get an original one.

Plus, taking off $10 means I can get an extra controller or game.
